Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse
Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse" was originally located behind the warehouse of Chiayi Railway Station. In August 1998, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Chiayi City remodeled it into a new art site other than the "Chiayi City Culture Center". It is also the first example in Taiwan to turn a railway warehouse into an alternative art site. Every month, different art exhibitions are organized at "Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse", and famous artists are invited to display their works here.
"Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse" was the most important transit station of daily necessities in Chiayi. Today, it becomes a place for disseminating art. Same place but different time points, a special atmosphere is created by art and the warehouse.
There is no majestic interior design inside the "Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse". Instead, it is a place for artists to exert their art creativity. Here, you can watch trains closely and appreciate different types of art exhibitions in each warehouse. Hinoki Village
Located in East District, Chiayi City, Hinoki Village occupies an area of about 3.15 hectares. There are always some 28 historical buildings on-site, based on Chiayi's forestry culture; the entire village is built with Japanese-styled cypress buildings. It is developed as a "characteristic attraction by revitalizing old buildings for forestry culture" into the most characteristic culture park in Chiayi integrating culture, art, history, and leisure.

Hinoki Village is divided into the following wards:
1. Agricultural Product Ward: Buildings in the area are built based on the one-tip two-leaf concept. Although the black and white appearance brings a strong sense of modernity, it corresponds to the Japanese-styled buildings nearby without conflicts. In the future, agricultural specialties from southern Taiwan will be sold inside to increase exposures for characteristic agricultural products from southern Taiwan.

2. Hinokicho Ward: Japanese-styled wooden buildings are the main feature of this ward. Art and cultural space, Japanese-styled public bath, and Japanese-styled rooms are presented for visitors to feel a strong Japanese sense, as though they were traveling in Japan.

3. Wooden Art Ward: This history and culture of the forestry industries and wooden artworks of some artists are presented here. Unlike the works displayed in ordinary display areas, each work shown in the ward is made of log. There are also the woodwork studio, café, and atrium landscape in the ward to demonstrate the diversity of this demonstration space. Hinoki Village is a forest-based culture park built upon the forestry culture of Chiayi and Alishan. It took NT$400 million and four years to complete and is a new highlight in Chiayi after the other two forest-based attractions: Song of Chiayi and Shadow of Lantan. The Song of Forest
It is a new attraction in Chiayi City completed in August 2012. Like Shadow of Lantan, it was also designed by artist Wang Wen-chih. Taking one year and NT$16 million to complete, The Song of Forest is an egg-shaped tower of about 14m tall. It stands between the Taiwan Trunk Like and Alishan Forest Railway next to the subway behind Chiayi City Culture Center. Located on the only way to Chiayi downtown, an eye-catching spot, it is a popular shooting spot of photographers.
Wang built this artistic "egg tower" with local materials of Chiayi, including the driftwood provided by Chiayi Forest District Office, scraped track of Alishan Forest Railway, yellow rattan palm (Calamus quiquesetinervius), and stones. This art structure of about 14m tall by 55m wide is inspired by the towering Alishan sacred tree and railway history. By stacking tree layers into a tower, a yellow rattan palm corridor is built as the entrance, like walking through a cave into the tower, to symbolize the thriving forestry industry and the importance of railway in Chiayi.
In daytime, we can look at the sky through the tower to enjoy sunlight shedding on the body, like the comfort and purity of the forest. At night, color lights decorate The Song of Forest into a dreamy monument that people are reluctant to leave this romantic atmosphere. Looking from afar, it is like an enormous egg standing in the city. Standing closer, it is like standing in the quietude of the forest. The beauty of The Song of Forest is waiting for you to explore.

Fenqihu
Fenqihu is a natural forest lake located in Jhuci Township, Chiayi County. Surrounded by mountains on three sides looking like a dustpan, it was called Benjihu. Later on people renamed it "Fenqihu" by changing the initial (consonant) of each Chinese character. Before Alishan Highway was opened, the forest railway was the major transport for people traveling to Alishan. As trains coming from the flatland area must stop at Fenqihu to change the locomotive or for a rest, Fenqihu was considered as the midway station of the Alishan Forest Railway.Speaking of Fenqihu, it is easy to think of railway and old street They are inseparable from Fenqihu. In the notion of most people, they will only meet the crowd only after they walk out of the railway station for some time. At Fenqihu, it is another story. In the old street there products of native flavors, they are the signature of old street. The railway boxed meal that one must drool over will be a must-try food as it is the only place for the authentic taste of railway boxed meals.

Alishan Forest Recreational Area
In administration, Alishan Forest Recreational Area comes under the jurisdiction of Alishan Township, Chiayi County. The township is about 75km away from Chiayi City and the Tropic of Cancer runs across Alishan Working Circle. Based on the target site, areas around Zhaoping, of the Alishan Forest Recreational Area Project approved in 1995, the major range of the area covers Zhaoping, Chushan Sunrise Watching Platform, the fourth diverging rail (near Alishan Station), Mt. Tashan, Dueigaoyue, Miaoyue Shihou, occupying an area of 1,400 hectares.
No mountain in the Alishan Forest Recreational Area is over 3,000m in elevation, and the highest peak, Mt. Data, is 2,663m in elevation. In geology, Alishan area belongs to the Nangang sandstone formation, about the late Miocene (10 million years ago), with block sandstone and shale as the major and minor rock types respectively. The Alishan Range is formed by thick sandstone of the Nangang formation. As there are both north-south and east-west faults in the area, steep cliffs and waterfalls are common in the area. Most part of the forest recreational area is high plantation surfaces. Looking out from Mt. Data, it is clear that the west side is a gentle slope, while there are hanging cliffs east of Mt. Chushan and Mt. Dueigaoyue across the Heshe River and Tataka. Mt. Xiaoda is also a cliff. The Alishan River runs from northwest toward the Qingshui River. Toward south, it is the upper course of the Zhengwen River in the valley where Alishan Highway runs. In 1996, typhoon Herb broke the single-day rainfall record by 1,095mm. On August 8, 2009, typhoon Morakot (moderate typhoon) that traumatized Taiwan accumulated a total of 2,747mm rainfall in three days, adding the total August rainfall to 3,346mm, which as much higher than the annual rainfall of any country in the world. The flooding rainfall caused severe debris flow at the lower course of these three rivers. Compared to the meteorological data over the years, it is ever exaggerated to describe Alishan as a "raining mountain". As the mountain is located in the temperate climate zone, weather difference in all seasons is small. The average temperate is 10.8°C, and the lowest recorded winter temperature is -3°C. Therefore, Alishan is a famous summer resort.

Jiemei (Sister) Lakes

Around the birthday of Xuantian Shangdi, armor-like magic butterflies must come to celebrate the birthday for the deity; the large recorded number was over two dozen at a time.
