1.Group Tickets for Ordinary Trains:
    • Fares: Each group of 20 to 49 persons enjoys a 20% discount from the fare. Each group of 50 or more persons enjoys a 35% discount from the fare. Mantissa is rounded up.
    • Tickets for a group of less than 49 persons are issued by the staffed ticket office. In consideration of train capacity, tickets for a group of more than 50 persons should be purchased by application and approved by the TRA before issue.
    • Responsible Units: All staffed ticket offices. Form: Group Tickets for Ordinary Train Application Form
    • No Group Tickets are available for holidays, summer breaks, and winter breaks.
2.Group Tickets for Limited Expresses :
    • Fares: Each group of 10 or more persons may purchase group tickets, and each person should pay exact fares. Please note that there is no discount for group tickets of limited expresses.
    • Responsible Units: Please apply for group tickets for limited expresses from the Group Tickets for 10 or More Persons from the TRA website (please refer to the Group Tickets for Limited Expresses).

Notes:

Parlor Car Rental: A parlor car is available for government agencies, companies and business entities, and private cities to rent for entertaining guests, group travel, business visit, family tours, wedding, and other celebrations.

    • Application Time: Applications shall be made two months to 20 days in advance.
      ※Please check the latest notice of application time change.
    • Application Method: After completing the Parlor Car Rental Application, please fax it to us at (02) 2389-9512 during 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
      ※Completion of the Parlor Car Rental Application does not mean your application is approved. TRA staff will reply to your application by phone within three workdays after submission (excluding Saturdays and Sundays).
      ※The TRA has only one parlor car. All applications are processed in accordance with the first-in first-out (FIFO) rule.
    • Rent: The rent shall be the single adult fare of Juguang Express from the start to the destination for 52 persons. Applicants may enjoy a 20% discount and will need to pay extra NT$300 for one TRA service staff. Fares less than 100km shall be considered as 100km. (The TRA temporarily set the discount at 20% and are granting a 50% discount of parlor car return fee for single journey rental as of 1 March 1986. The discount and discount are subject to change. Please check the notice at railway stations.)
    • Parlor Car Capacity: The maximum capacity of the parlor car is 30 passengers (i.e. all seats in the car). Please pay fares for additional persons to arrange seats for them in the passenger cars.
    • The parlor car (PC701) is available for use only on scheduled Juguang Expresses as show below:

(3) Season Tickets (Currently no credit cards are accepted, please pay in cash)

Season tickets are available for passengers travelling by train regularly within 150km in each journey. A "paper universal season ticket" is issued for stations without automatic baffle gates. A "magnetic universal season ticket" is issued for stations with automatic baffle gates. Season tickets are bearer tickets and the compensation for train delay policy does not apply to season tickets. (The frequency-based season tickets were suspended and have been replaced by the "magnetic universal season tickets" as of 10 February 2011.)
The TRA introduced the 60-Day Season Ticket as of 1 June 2010 (also called 60-Day Universal Season Ticket; and 30-Day Season Ticket is also called 30-Day Universal Season Ticket).
  • 1.Validity:
    • 30-Day Universal Season Ticket: 30 days from the ticket start day.
    • 60-Day Universal Season Ticket: 60 days from the ticket start day.
    • Available for pre-sale tickets starting date three days on a regular basis (eg: February 20 pre-sale starts on February 23 Regular ticket).
  • 2.Fares:
    • 30-Day Universal Season Ticket: [(Fares of Fuxing Express) x (2 Journeys/Day) x (21 Days) x (85% (15% off))], mantissa is rounded up.
    • 60-Day Universal Season Ticket: [(Fares of Fuxing Express) x (2 Journeys/Day) x (42 Days) x (80% (20% off))], mantissa is rounded up.
    • (※During February 10 to May 31, 2010, fares of the 30-Day Universal Season Ticket were adjusted to [(Fares of Fuxing Express) x (2 Journeys/Day) x (30 Days) x (62% (38% off))], mantissa is rounded up.
  • 3.Instructions of Use:
    • Passengers can travel on the same journey and the same class of train unlimitedly during ticket validity; except for the Formosa Express, Taroko Express, Puyuma Express, and trains announced by the TRA (e.g. mail trains and group trains).
    • If you want to cancel a season ticket, please apply for a refund as early as possible, as the fare of each day counts (from the start day to the refund day) at two journeys a day (fares of the Fuxing Express without discount). You will also need to pay a handling charge at NT$31 for ticket cancelation and refund).
      • Examples:A 30-Day Universal Season Ticket between Taoyuan and Zhongli valid during April 22 to May 21.
      • *Refund on April 30 (Day 9):
      • Ticket Value (NT$536) – Fuxing Express Fares for 9 days (NT$15 x 2 journeys x 9 days) – Refund Handling Charge (NT$31) = NT$235.
      • *Refund on May 12 (Day 21):
      • Ticket Value (NT$536) – Fuxing Express Fares for 21 days (NT$15 x 2 journeys x 21 days) – Refund Handling Charge (NT$31) = NT$0.
      • ※In this case, passengers are recommended to use the thicket until its expiry.
      • ※When refunding a 60-Day Universal Season Ticket after 30 days, a discount will be counted for the first 30 days.
      • Examples:60-Day Universal Season Ticket between Taoyuan and Zhongli valid during April 22 to June 20.
      • *Refund on May 23 (Day 32)
      • Ticket Value (NT$1,008) – Fares for 30-Day Universal Season Ticket (NT$536) – Fuxing Express Fares for 2 days (NT$15 x 2 journeys x 2 days) – Refund Handling Charge (NT$31) = NT$381.
      • *Refund on May 20 (Day 29)
      • Ticket Value (NT$1,008) – Fuxing Express Fares for 29 days (NT$15 x 2 journeys x 29 days) – Refund Handling Charge (NT$31) = NT$107.
      • ※In this case, passengers are recommended to refund their tickets after day 30.
    • Please keep the Magnetic Universal Season Ticket clean and away from high-power magnetic fields and do not bend the ticket.
    • Please renew a dirty or damaged Magnetic Universal Season Ticket at a staffed ticket office. If the ticket is too dirty to identify, please pay exact fares and apply for renewal afterwards.
    • When passing through an automatic baffle gate with the Magnetic Universal Season Ticket, please insert the ticket in the gate after the previous passenger leaves the gate to avoid ticket reading errors. Please note that the ARA will not re-issue a Magnetic Universal Season Ticket for a lost ticket.
    • You may get off the train at any station in the same journey(when getting off at a station beyond the journey indicated on the ticket, you will need to pay the fare for the addition journey. The minimum fare will be charged if fares are under the minimum fare).
      • Example: You will need to pay an additional fare of NT$23 if you get off the train at Hsinchu Station with a Zhongli-Zhubei season ticket (Ziqiang Express).

(4)Taiwan Rail Card

1.Card Values: NT$1,000 and NT$500, both enjoy a 10% discount.
2.Instructions for Use:
    • Holders can only buy tickets with the Taiwan Rail Card at stations with self service ticket machines. Do not use it to board a train or pass the baffle gate.
    • You will enjoy a 10% discount when you buy the card. That is to say, you will need to pay NT$900 for a NT$1,000 card and NT$450 for a NT$500 card. After buying a ticket with the card, you will the original fare will be displayed with the "Card" logo. When you refund this ticket, you will refund the fare after deducting the discount amount.
    • Please keep the Magnetic Universal Season Ticket clean and away from high-power magnetic fields and do not bend the ticket. When the card is usable, cancel and refund the card from a train station. When you refund your Taiwan Rail Card, the discount amount will be deducted.
    • The Taiwan Rail Card is a bearer rail card. Please keep it securely. The TRA will not re-issue a lost card.
    • You can check the balance from a self service ticket machine. Please pay the balance if the value inside is inadequate. This card does not support top-up. Buy a new card after use.

(5)Day Pass for 3 Branch Lines (Pingxi, Neiwan, and Jiji)

1.Fares:
    • Pingxi Line (Haikeguan to Jingtong): Adult fare NT$80 and Discount fare NT$40
    • Neiwan Line (Hsinchu to Neiwan): Adult fare NT$95 and Discount fare NT$50
    • Jiji Lien (Ershui to Checheng): Adult fare NT$90 and Discount fare NT$45
2.Instructions for Use:
    • All day passes can only be used for respective branch lines on the same day and are Invalid without a date stamp.
    • Passengers can enjoy unlimited travel within the region on the same day.
    • A day pass is non-refundable.
3.Departure Stations:
    • Pingxi Line: Banqiao, Taipei, Songshan, Keeling, Badu, Ruifang, Houtong, Yilan, Luodong, Pingxi, Jingtong, and Shifen.

(6)Northeast Day Pass

1.Fares:
  • Adult: NT$126 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons): NT$64
2.Instructions for Use:
    • This day pass can only be used between Ruifang and Toucheng on the same day and is invalid without a date stamp.
    • Passengers can enjoy unlimited travel between Ruifang and Toucheng (including the Pingxi Line) on commuter cars or Fuxing Express.
    • Passengers can upgrade to the Zhiqiang Express and Zhuguang Express by paying the extra fares or pay the fares to the conductor after boarding.
    • A day pass is non-refundable.
3.Points of Sales:

(7)Hualien-Taitung Travel Pass:

1.Zone and Fares:
    • Xincheng-Fuli 3-Day Pass: Adult NT$882 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons) NT$ 444.
    • Yuli-Zhiben 3-Day Pass: Adult NT$597 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons) NT$ 301.
    • Xincheng-Zhiben 5-Day Pass: Adult NT$2,236 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons) NT$1,122.
    • Chishang-Dawu Day Pass: Adult NT$150 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons) NT$75.
    • Chishang-Dawu 3-Day Pass: Adult NT$400 and Discount (including child, senior, and disabled persons) NT$200.
2.Instructions for Use:
    • The Taitung-Hualien Travel Pass is value for travel between the start and destination stations. The day pass is valid on the same day; the 3-day pass is value within three days from date of sales (or the by the expiry); and the 5-day pass is value within five days from date of sales (or the by the expiry). It is invalid without a date stamp.
    • Passengers can enjoy unlimited travel between the start and destination stations on all types of trains (except for the Taroko Express, Puyuma Express, Formosa Express, charted trains or special trains).
    • A travel pass does not accept booking for seats.
    • A travel pass is non-refundable after use.
3.Points of Sales:

(8)TR-PASS for Students

1.TR-Pass for Domestic Students during Summer and Winter Breaks (not effective on foreign students):
    • Winter Break: January 15 to March 15.
    • Summer Break: June 15 to September 15.
2.Types/Fares:
    • 5-Day Pass/NT$599[For domestic students during winter and summer breaks only]
    • 7-Day Pass/NT$799[For domestic students during winter and summer breaks only]
    • 10-Day Pass/NT$1098[For foreign students only]
3.Train Types:
  • During the pass is valid, students can enjoy unlimited travel within the region on any trains lower than the Juguang Express. Students cannot ask for a seat when boarding a Fuxing Express and Juguang Express.

      ※This policy is designed for foreign students visiting to Taiwan for short-term travel. Foreign students holding an alien resident certificate (ARC) are not allowed to use the TR Pass.
    • ii. Domestic Students: For winters and summer breaks only. Students must show a valid student card issued by a MOE-accredited domestic school.
      Elementary school students: Buy the TR Pass with papers proving their age (e.g. household certificate, NHI card, etc).
      Recent graduates from schools of all levels: Recent graduates should bring their certificate of graduation or the enrollment notice of a new school and the citizen identity to buy the pass (e.g. graduates of 2009 can buy the TR-Pass in the summer break of 2009; and graduates of 2008 cannot use the TR-Pass).
      Adult students of community universities or the Open University: Valid student card. Domestic students studying abroad: Citizen identity card and the valid student card issued by the overseas school to which they are enrolled.
6.Presale Periods:
  • In consideration of the regional difference and buying convenience of domestic students and foreign students, the presale periods include:
    • Foreign Students: 7 days before use [Ex. Buy the TR-Pass for July 7 on July 1]
    • Domestic Students: 3 days before use [Ex. Buy the TR-Pass for July 3 on July 1]
    • ※Passengers traveling with a not effective TR-PASS must pay the fare as usual.
    • ※When buying a TR-Pass in advance, passengers may ask another person to buy it for them with their papers (including photocopy). However, they must show the original copy of papers to the conductor or inspector in an inspection.
7.Additional Fares:
  • Passengers must not travel on a Zhiqiag Express with a TR-PASS by paying the fare balance. Passengers must buy another ticket for the Zhiqiag Express, including paying fares on the train which is subject to the Travelling without Tickets policy.
8.Instructions for Use:
    • Passengers can enjoy unlimited travel within the zone during validity with trains lower than the Juguang Express. Passengers must not travel on the Formosa Expresses 1, 2, 51, and 52; chartered trains 71, 74, 73, and 72; special trains; mail trains; and other TRA-specified trains. Travelling on these trains will be treated as Travelling without Tickets.
    • Passengers must not ask for a seat when travelling on the Juguang Express and Fuxing Express.
    • The name of user and the name in the pass must be identical. Please carry your student card for inspectors to examine.
    • The validity of a TR-Pass cannot be altered. When there is a typhoon or an act of God that the use of the pass is prevented, passengers may seek a resolution from any of the following ways after the act of God is proved by a station staff.
      • a. Extension for one day.
      • b. Refund by percentage (the start date is not included in the calculation of refunds).
    • The TR-Pass is invalid if it is altered. The TRA will confiscate an altered pass.
    • A TR-Pass is non-refundable after use. The Compensation for Train Delay Policy does not apply to TR-Pass.
    • Please properly keep your TR-Pass. The TRA will not re-issue a lost or stolen TR-Pass.
    • Do not lean on doors or stations or sit in front the exit to prevent danger.
    • Matters not provided herein are subject to related TRA policies.

9.TR-PASS General

  • ※Group Save for 4: Package for four passengers(no individual use). Children, seniors, or persons with disabilities will not enjoy fare discounts when traveling with Group Safe tickets.Each member of a group less than four must pay individual fares.
3. Train Types:
    • Passengers may enjoy unlimited travel within the zone and book seats on all types of trains. Passengers must confirm their seats before they are allowed to board the Taroko Express, Puyuma Express, and chartered trains. Passengers are not allowed to take the Formosa Express, mail trains, and other TRA-specified trains.
    • The Old Mountain Line does not accept the TR-Pass General.
4.Instructions for Use:
    • Group fares do not apply to the TR-Pass General.
    • A TR-Pass is valid for a term of 30 days after the date of purchase. Passengers may start using the pass on a day within validity. Once the pass is activated, passengers must use the pass continuously and must use it at random. For example, a passenger buys a pass in July 1 and the validity of the pass is valid from July 1 to July 30. If is a 3-day pass and the passenger starts using it on July 20, the validity of this activated pass will be July 20 to July 22. [This passenger cannot use the pass from July 1 to July 19 or July 23 to July 30; otherwise, he/she must pay the exact fares as in Travelling with Tickets.]
    • A TR-Pass will be voided after expiry. As in the above example, if the passenger starts using it on July 29, he/she can only use it on July 29 and July 30 and cannot use it anymore from July 31 onward.
    • Before travelling with the TR-Pass, passengers must go to the ticket office and as TRA staff to affix a date stamp on the jacket before using the pass.
    • A Day” shall mean 00:00-24:00. That is, the pass is invalid before 00:00 of the first day and will remain valid before 24:00 on the last day. A passenger can board the train before 24:00 on that day, and the pass will be invalid after he/she gets off the train.
    • The TR-Pass will be suspended during the Spring Festival travel season and will not span that period. Passengers are advised to check ticket validity before buying.
    • Passengers must bring the pass jacket at the same time.
    • Passengers shall show the pass jacket (with a pass inside) to book a seat at the ticket office. Passengers will not get a seat on the trains if they do not book a seat in advance.
    • Validity shall not be altered. As the TR-Pass provides unlimited travel, it is non-refundable after use; except for an act of God which is approved by the station staff.
    • After booking a seat, the reservation is valid only for the specified car and specified day. Passengers can only book one seat for one train each time in a day and shall not make repeated reservations. Passengers wishing to cancel a reservation or change to an earlier train must make an application with the booking ticket in advance to save the handling charge. Passengers can only use free cancellation or alteration for one time and will need to pay NT$13 for each alteration since the second time.
    • When a confirmed seat has been booked by another passenger or the air-conditioning system of a limited express is out of order, passengers using the TR-Pass General may refund 20% of the fare of that journey with the confirmation of relevant TRA staff. The maximum amount of refund must not exceed 20% of the daily fare converted from the pass.
    • When train operation is prevented by a typhoon or an act god, passengers may seek a resolution from any of the following ways with the confirmation of a TRA staff.
      • a. Extension for one day.
      • b. Refund by percentage (the start date is not included in the calculation of refunds).
    • When the Compensation for Train Delay Policy applies, passengers may extend the TR-Pass General for one day with the confirmation of a TRA staff.
    • Please properly keep your TR-Pass. The TRA will not re-issue a lost or stolen TR-Pass.
    • Non-pass holders will need to pay exact fares.
    • Matters not provided herein are subject to related TRA policies.
