* Double Line Project of the mountain line between Jhunan and Fongyuan
The mountain line passes through Miaoli, Fongyuan, Taichung and other urban areas which takes more than 70% of passenger load and is the trunk line for transportation in west Taiwan for the TRA. However, owing to the low level of standards of the line, the old tunnels and the limits of speed and tracting tonnage, there are bottlenecks in traffic. In order to improve this situation, the Taiwan Government decided to invest a huge amount of capital to proceed with this Project and the commencement of the double line began at the end of June 1998.
* Electrification Project between Kaohsiung and Pingtung
The total length of this Project is 20.9 kilometers and the total project will cost approximately 1.80 billion NT Dollars. When this Project is completed, the capacity will be greatly increased and the speed of cars will be greater. Nuisance and air pollution can be reduced, a benefit to the quality of the environment in Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas.
