Last update time:2024/12/02
Guideline for the Use of Real-name Registered TR-PASS and Traveling on TR-PASS
By informing the user of the following when purchasing a TR-PASS through the ticket counter of the State-owned Taiwan Railway Corporation Limited (hereinafter referred to as the Corporation), acceptance of this service shall be deemed to be an agreement to the following terms and conditions:
1. Agree that the Company and the operator of the reservation and ticketing systems may collect and process the national ID or passport numbers entered by users, and agree that the Company may cross-check and verify such information with the household information.
2. The personal information collected and processed by the Company and the operator of the reservation and ticketing systems shall be used exclusively for the purpose of real-name reservation and purchase of TR-PASS and other related ticketing services.
3. Agree to provide personal identification documents (e.g., national ID card, national health insurance card, and passport) as required by the Company when purchasing TR-PASS.
4. Agree that the Company may print personal information sufficient to identify the user on the printed surface of the TR-PASS and make it part of the information on the TR-PASS.
5. In the event that the user does not agree to provide their personal information, the Company may decline the user's purchase of a TR-PASS.
6. After the user has completed the booking or purchase of a TR-PASS, the user may request the Company and the operator of the reservation and ticketing systems not to collect, process, or utilize their personal information, or request the deletion of their personal information. However, the person who has already completed the transaction shall first apply for a refund before doing so. After the request is made, the Company shall consider that the user no longer accepts the use of their real name for booking or purchasing a TR-PASS.
7. Passengers purchasing TR-PASS are required to present identification documents (e.g., national ID card, national health insurance card, driver’s license, or passport) to the conductor at the ticket counter for verification. The holder’s national ID card number or passport number shall be marked on the printed surface of the ticket. Passengers shall present the TR-PASS together with the said identification documents at the time of ticket inspection by the Company. In the event that the ticket holder refuses to cooperate in the ticket inspection, transfers the ticket to another person, rides with a ticket that is not issued to the holder themselves, fails to present identification documents, or cannot be identified as the holder themselves when traveling, they will be considered as traveling without a ticket, and will be required to purchase a replacement ticket in accordance with the Company’s regulations, with an additional charge of 50% of the ticket price, and will not be allowed to apply for a refund of the original ticket.
8. Tickets for trains under the real-name registration system are issued as named tickets. In the event that a passenger loses their ticket, they shall be subject to the provisions of Paragraphs 4 and 5 of Article 32 of the Company’s Passenger Transportation Contract.
9. For the protection of passengers’ rights and the normal use of the ticket, passengers are advised to use the ticket in accordance with the procedures of “entering and exiting the station with a TR-PASS and passing through the automatic gate with the QR-Code on the printed surface of the ticket.” In case of irregularities in use, for instance, absence of entrance or exit records, passengers are advised to bring their TR-PASS to the ticket counter at the station for handling. In the event that a passenger fails to identify their station of departure, a replacement ticket will be issued in accordance with the rules for traveling without a ticket, and a surcharge of 50% shall be added to the fare for the zone in which the passenger is traveling.
Guidelines for the Use and Traveling on the General TR-PASS1. Types of Tickets: [G] Individual Tickets (3-day and 5-day tickets).
2. Within the validity period, passengers may travel on all classes of the Company’s trains without limiting the zones or the number of trips. However, in case a seat has already been assigned to a passenger at the same time, the passenger may not use this ticket to request for a seat on a different train at the same time, except for the refund of the seat at the ticket counter prior to the departure time of the train.
3. Passengers who have not reserved a seat at the ticket window within the validity period will be considered as traveling without occupying a seat. However, passengers on Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, Tze-Chiang Limited Express EMU3000 and Group Trains are still required to have their seats reserved before boarding. Passengers are not allowed to use this Ticket to travel on sightseeing trains, cruise-type trains, trains operated under the real-name registration system, exclusive trains, other trains designated by the Company, and the Company’s “Business Class” and “Premium Class” compartments, (e.g., Tze-Chiang Limited Express EMU 3000 Business Class, etc.), and violators shall be subject to the provisions applicable to passengers travelling without valid tickets in accordance with the Passenger Transportation Contract of the Company.
4. Passengers purchasing this ticket at the counter must immediately select an “effective date” (including the day within 30 days from the date of purchase as the effective date) and use it on consecutive days after the “effective date” without skipping any dates, and the effective date cannot be changed once selected. For example, if a 3-day TR-PASS is purchased on July 1, any day between July 1 and July 30 can be selected as the effective date, and it can be used for 3 consecutive days after the effective date. Unused tickets will expire if not fully utilized within the validity period as stated thereon.
5. The validity date of this ticket cannot be changed once it has been confirmed to be sold. Given the fact that this ticket can be used for unlimited number of times and zones, no refunds are allowed after the effective date (starting at 0:00 a.m. on that day), except for reasons attributable to the Company or force majeure factors as certified by the station office.
6. Passengers traveling on trains with reserved seats within the validity period of the TR PASS shall use both the TR PASS and the reserved seat ticket together, and they shall not be used separately. If a passenger enters or leaves a station or boards a train with a reserved seat ticket only, they must present the original ticket and documents matching the ID number on the original ticket for inspection by the station attendant or train conductor. Passengers who fail to match the ID number on the original ticket shall be subject to the provisions of the Company’s Passenger Transportation Contract for ticketless passengers.
7. Tickets and identification documents (e.g. national ID card or passport) shall be presented to the conductor at the ticket counter for seat reservation. Passengers may use online booking information (before payment) to reserve seats at the station ticket counter. However, for online booking information with payment made by credit card, or physical tickets with payment made by cash or credit card, or mobile tickets that have already been picked up, passengers are not allowed to use this ticket to reserve seats instead.
8. Once the seat reservation procedure is completed, the reserved seat ticket is valid for the same day and the same trip only. Each TR-PASS is entitled to one seat reservation per day, per train trip, and per zone. If a passenger who has already reserved a seat on the same day and at the same time has not withdrawn from their seat before the “boarding time” of the reserved seat ticket, they may not use the same ticket to request a duplicate reservation, but may only use the reserved seat ticket to request the station to authorize the nearest equivalent train to be boarded without occupying a seat. This provision shall not apply to those types of trains (e.g., Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, etc.) for which announcements have been made during the sale period that ticketless travel is not permitted.
9. Passengers who wish to cancel or exchange their tickets (reserved seat tickets) with this ticket must present the unused reserved seat tickets and TR-PASS at the station prior to the departure time of the reserved seat ticket and may do so without handling charges. However, there is a limit of one exchange on the same day and in the same zone or train, and the second exchange (reserved seat ticket) shall be charged in stages according to the number of days between the boarding date and the day of travel as specified in the full fare ticket.
10. In the event of force majeure, such as a typhoon, from the announcement date of a sea typhoon warning to the day it is lifted, should passengers’ scheduled trips be affected by the typhoon, for instance, suspension of train service, delay in catching a train, or inability of passengers to take a train, a refund will be made according to the number of days remaining in the journey (refund shall be calculated on the basis of the number of days in accordance with the price at the time of the purchase of the TR-PASS), subject to the signature of a member of the Company’s station staff.
11. In case of loss of tickets, passengers shall be subject to the provisions of Paragraphs 4 and 5 of Article 32 of the Passenger Transportation Contract of the Company. Passengers who fail to meet the identity requirements shall be subject to additional charges in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Company.
12. A refund fee of NT$31 per ticket shall be charged in case of refunds after the sale of the ticket. The deadline for refunds is 23:59 on the day prior to the ticket’s effective date. In the event of special circumstances, in accordance with the Company’s Train Delay Compensation Agreement and force majeure (e.g., natural disasters) for multiple days, passengers who do not wish to continue their travels will be exempted from the NT$31 handling fee for ticket refunds.
13. The use of TR-PASS is suspended during the “Chinese New Year Decongestion Period” or the period of suspension announced by the Company, and passengers are not permitted to request to use the ticket across that period. Passengers are advised to pay attention to the relevant period of use when purchasing tickets.
14. Meal box reservation service available for online booking is not available for TR-PASS.
15. Matters not covered herein shall be handled in accordance with the TR’s regulations and announcements. Please refer to the TR’s official website for the Guidelines for the Use of TR-PASS.
