General Passengers
Ticket types / Fares
  1. 3-day pass / Adult - NT$ 1,800; Discount - NT$ 900; 
  2. 5-day pass / Adult - NT$ 2,500; Discount - NT$ 1,250; 
Remarks:
  1. Concession tickets include child tickets, senior tickets and discounted tickets for disabled people.
Applicable train types
  1. TR-PASS General can be used only within the specified period, and in the valid period it allows unlimited rides on all train lines with seat reservations. Pass holders must confirm their seats before boarding on the Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express (3000) and Group Trains; this pass is not applicable for traveling on tour trains, cruise-type trains, and other trains specified by TR.
  2. TR-PASS General cannot be used on trains of Old Mountain Lines and Alishan Forest Railway.

Notes
  1. During the validity period, TR-Pass holders can enjoy unlimited rides across the island by Taiwan Railway Corporation,Ltd.(TR) Train Services (with some exceptions). In terms of seat reservation, double-booking is not allowed during the same time period, which means TR-Pass holders have to cancel an existed reservation at ticket office before departure time, in order to make another reservation in the same time period.
  2. During the validity period, TR-Pass holders who do not make seat reservation before boarding will be considered as traveling without occupying seats. Whilst prior seat reservation is required for Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express (3000) and Group Trains, as described in item 4.. In addition, TR-Pass is not valid for taking nor reserving any seat on Tourist Trains, Cruise-Style Trains, Real-Name Registration Trains, Charter Trains, Other Trains designated by TR, “Business Cars” and Premium Cars of Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express (3000) Trains. Violations on above will be considered as traveling without valid ticket and be charged a penalty fare based on TR’s Train Services Agreement.
  3. All seats are reserved on Taroko Express, Puyuma Express, Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express (3000) and Group Trains. Without prior seats reservation, TR-Pass holders are not allowed to take above trains. Only when the desired Puyuma/Taroko Express are fully booked, TR pass holders may go to the ticket office on departure date with valid TR-Pass, get standing tickets and take the trains. In addition, TR-Pass is not valid for taking or reserving any seat on Tourist Trains, Cruise-Style Trains, Real-Name Registration Trains, Blue Trains, Charter Trains, Other Trains designated by TR, “Business Cars” and Premium Cars of Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express (3000) Trains. Violations on above will be considered as traveling without valid ticket and be charged a penalty fare based on TR’s Train Services Agreement. (Standing tickets may not be available during specific period of time, based on TR’s announcement.)
  4. Upon purchasing a TR-Pass at ticket office, activation date (to be selected within 30 days of purchase) must be decided on the spot. TR-Pass is valid for a continuous 3 or 5 days, starting from the activation date, which means flexible use on non-consecutive dates is not allowed. Once selected, activation date will not be changeable. For example, if a person purchases a 3-day TR-Pass on July 1st, activation date can be set between July 1st to 30th, and the validity period will be continuous 3 days from activation date. The pass will lose its validity after the expiry date.
  5. TR-Pass holders should present both “Pass ticket and Pass Cover” when traveling during the validity period.
  6. TR-Pass is not valid during “Lunar New Year Holiday” or any suspended period announced by TR, and the pass validity period is not extendable either when overlapping with such period. Please pay careful attention to related information upon purchase.
  7. To make a seat reservation, TR-Pass holders can bring pass covers (with tickets inside) to the ticket office or make online reservation in advance (without making any payment) and show the booking record at ticket office. Please note that any online reservation, paper tickets or issued e-tickets whose payment has been done, either by cash or credit card, are not convertible to using TR-Pass. (No refund on purchased tickets.)
  8. Once sold, the validity period of TR-Pass is not changeable. Due to the tickets’ nature, cancellation must be done before 00:00 on the activation date, except for reasons attributable to TR or force majeure. (Acknowledgement from TR is required)
  9. Reserved-seat tickets are valid for the specific train/date only. One TR-Pass is limited to one seat reservation for one specific train, route and date. Without canceling the existed reservation before departure time, ticket holders are not allowed to book another seat during the same time period. Instead, tickets holders may take the next train without occupying a seat by receiving acknowledgement from TR staff. Trains require prior seat reservation (Eg. Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, etc.) are not eligible to above practice.
  10. To cancel or change a seat after making reservation, ticket holders should bring the unused reserved seat tickets together with TR-Pass to the station before departure time. No cancellation or change fee will be charged for the 1st time, while changes for the 2nd time onwards on the same date/route will be charged according to the number of days before departure, referring to terms of conditions of regular tickets.
  11. On occasions when trains are suspended due to force majeure such as typhoons, TR-Pass holders may apply for either options from below, after receiving acknowledgement from TR staffs.
    1. Extend validity period for 1 more day
    2. Get a refund in proportion to remaining validity period (Purchase price to be divided by days)
  12. On occasions when express trains delay due to reasons applicable to TR’s Delay Compensation Policy, TR-Pass holders may choose to extend the validity period for 1 more day after receiving acknowledgement from TR staff, or to get a refund in proportion to remaining validity period at ticket offices. (Please bring all unused reserved-seat tickets and TR-Pass to the station for refund procedures).
  13. TR-Pass cannot be reissued in cases of lost or stolen, so please keep it with you at all times. Passengers found to be not eligible for using TR-Pass will be charged with adjustment fee.
  14. In case of cancellation, each TR-Pass will be charged a cancellation fee of NTD$31. Cancellation must be made up to 23:59 on the day before activation date. If the pass holders need to cancel/suspend their trip due to reasons applicable to TR’s Delay Compensation Policy and force majeure which last for several days (Eg. Natural disaster), cancellation fee will be exempt.
  15. TR-Pass is not eligible for online boxed meal reservation service.

Students
For local students
  1. TR-PASS (Student) are available all year round.
  2. Necessary documents for ticket booking/collection:
    Remarks:
    1. Elementary school students, who may not have student identity cards, shall present necessary documents for age verifications (such as household registration, national health insurance card, etc.)
    2. Students from community university or open university shall present their valid student identity card.
    3. Taiwanese overseas students shall present their national identity card as well as their valid student identity card from the university.
    1. Students shall present a valid government recognized student identity card when purchasing the pass.
    2. Fresh graduates shall present their graduation certificate or enrollment notice of the coming academic year, as well as their identity card when purchasing the pass. (For example, graduates of 2018 can purchase the TR-Pass in the summer break of 2018; graduates of 2017 or earlier cannot.)
  3. Reservations: up to 7 days before the train ride. (For example, TR-PASS on 7th July is available for sale from 1st July.)
    Remarks:
    1. Passengers use invalid TR-PASS (Student) boarding the train will be considered as traveling without tickets. The passenger shall pay for the additional fare for the trip based on the regulations stated.
    2. Passengers shall prepare all necessary documents when purchasing TR-PASS (Student). Photocopy of the documents is accepted on purchase, but passengers shall present the original document for checking when taking the train ride.
International students
  1. TR-PASS (Student) are available all year round.
  2. Necessary documents for ticket booking/collection:
    Remarks:
    1. TR-PASS (Student) is available for student visitors, i.e. holders of Visa-Exempt Entry and Landing Visa who will stay in The Republic of China (Taiwan) for less than 180 days, only. TR-PASS (Student) is not available for holders of Resident Visas who will stay in The Republic of China (Taiwan) for more than 180 days.

  3. Reservations: up to 3 days before the train ride. (For example, TR-PASS on 3th July is available for sale from 1st July.)
    Remarks:
    1. Passengers use invalid TR-PASS (Student) on board the train will be considered as traveling without tickets. The passenger shall pay for the additional fare for the trip based on the regulations stated.

  • This ticket is only available for purchase at the above 75 station ticket window.
Ticket types / Fares
  1. 5-day pass / NT$ 599 
  2. 7-day pass / NT$ 799 
  3. 10-day pass / NT$ 1,098 (for international students only)
Applicable train types
  • TR-PASS (Student) is valid for unlimited rides on all zones of Chu-Kuang Express or lower classes within a specific time period stated on the ticket. TR-PASS (Student) holders cannot reserve seats in advance for Fu-Hsing Express and Chu-Kuang Express.
Additional charge
  • TR-PASS (Student) does not include the services of Tze-Chiang Limited Express. Fare adjustment from TR-PASS (Student) to Tze-Chiang Limited Express ticket is not allowed. Passengers shall purchase new tickets before boarding Tze-Chiang Limited Express. No fare adjustment can be done on the train. Passengers without correct tickets will be considered as traveling without tickets.
Notes
  1. Passengers shall purchase TR-PASS (Student) at our ticket office in the stations.
  2. The pass the not applicable as group tickets.
  3. Please carry your valid student card for inspectors to examine.
  4. The validity of a TR-Pass cannot be altered. When there is a typhoon or an act of God that the use of the pass is prevented, passengers may seek a resolution from any of the following ways after the act of God is proved by a station staff.
    1. Extension for one day.
    2. Refund by percentage (the start date is not included in the calculation of refunds).
  5. The TR-Pass is invalid if it is altered. The TR will confiscate an altered pass.
  6. A TR-Pass is non-refundable after use. The Compensation for Train Delay Policy does not apply to TR-Pass.
  7. Please properly keep your TR-Pass. The TR will not re-issue a lost or stolen TR-Pass.
  8. Do not lean on doors or stations or sit in front the exit to prevent danger.
  9. Matters not provided herein are subject to related TR policies.
  10. It may cost passengers NT.31 dollars handling charge when the pass voucher is refunded.
